The South African Hunters and Game Conservation Association (SAHGCA) proudly announces a new, annual hunters exhibition that will offer everything the hunter wants and needs, as well as a variety of other opportunities that the South African hunting enthusiast could ever dream of.
HuntEx2011, which will be held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng from 15 -17 April 2011, will introduce a new era for the commercial hunting industry. The aim of this hunting exhibition is to create a commercial trade show where the manufacturer and supplier of hunting gear and accessories can exhibit the full scope of their products and services and interact with hunters about their needs and preferences.
`With HuntEx we will focus the attention on hunters and their needs: from the choice of hunting rifle, hunting destinations and vehicles to the final product, whether it is venison or trophies. HuntEx will create an opportunity where dealers and hunters can discuss the best hunting experience without any interruption or distraction," says Danie Venter, Chief Executive Officer of SAHGCA.
Danie explains that the SAHGCA has done its homework thoroughly before deciding on the format of this new hunting exhibition. Results of research done by the Institute for Tourism and Leisure Studies at the University of Northwest about the profile of the South African hunter, and an informal SAHGCA survey done in 2009, provided very valuable information.
"These studies have shown that the modern South African hunters are particularly fastidious and will only buy the best hunting weapon, ammunition and accessories that they can afford. In addition, they are nature lovers for whom conservation and the preservation of our wildlife heritage are not negotiable. In a nutshell: they know very well what they want and that is exactly what HuntEx will offer them," says Danie.
SAHGCA joined forces with AmaConference, an experienced event and project management firm, to plan and organize HuntEx2011. Adriaan Woudstra of AmaConference is very excited about the positive prospects that this exhibition holds for the commercial hunting industry and hunters. `The interest shown by dealers of firearms, hunting rifle and hunting accessories to exhibit at HuntEx 2011 is overwhelming, to say the least. There is also unprecedented good-will from other role-players in the hunting industry, such as bow-hunter associations and clubs for clay pigeon shooting, hunting dogs and wing-shooters to get involved," explained Adriaan.
The agreement with Gallagher Convention Centre to provide the venue for HuntEx2011 has just been signed, which means that the recruitment of exhibitors can proceed without any further delay. According to Adriaan, the interest among firearm dealers in this early stage is a good indication that the industry is ripe and ready for a hunting exhibition for the hunter, by the hunter.
`We want to make it absolutely worthwhile for the hunter to visit HuntEx. Hunters will be able to view firearms, inspect them and even make an appointment to fire the weapons in a safe, indoor shooting range on site. Provision will also be made to undergo a competency test and apply for a firearm licence on the spot. It is as easy as that," he said.
But, there is certainly more to hunting than selecting a suitable hunting rifle. HuntEx will include exhibitions of the following products and services:
"¢ Handguns, hunting bows and knives
"¢ Ammunition and loading equipment
"¢ Hunting destinations and lodges
"¢ Bakkies, 4x4 vehicles and accessories
"¢ Photography, binoculars and telescopic sights
"¢ Outdoor activities and camping gear
"¢ Camouflage clothing
"¢ Meat processing
"¢ Conservation and game management
Other unique features of HuntEx2011 will include:
"¢ Indoor exhibition space for 230 stands of different sizes in the 5000m² exhibition area for suppliers of hunting and hunting-related products and services.
"¢ Indoor shooting-range to test firearms
"¢ Outdoor hunters fair offering activities such as archery demonstrations; airgun shooting; gun-dog demonstrations; venison preparation and cooking demonstrations.
"¢ Hunting skills experience offering pre-booked seminars, refresher courses and workshops for competency development; gunsmithing; reloading; ballistics, meat preparation, conservation; and bush-craft.
HuntEx2011 will offer a browse-and-buy experience that is unrivalled in the local hunting industry. Visitors will be able to stroll through the exhibitions and talk to experts about hunting rifles, ammunition, vehicles and accessories. It will offer a full-day outing for the hunter and his entire family with a variety of activities and interest to suit every age group and preference.
