Hunters beware! The anti hunting fraternmity is out to get you and those guys are willing to mislead the public in order to muster support for their campaigns. Insurance giant Sanlam and some of its valued clients recently fell foul of this devious strategy.
Campaign Against Canned Hunting, sponsored by the Animal Rescue Coalition, started a petition on the Internet inferring that:
* The planned hunting trip was nothing else than canned hunting;
* The trip was to be funded from the premiums paid by Sanlam policyholders.
In both cases nothing can be further from the truth. Canned hunting is frowned upon by the entire hunting fraternity. Secondly, the trip was to be funded from Sanlam's own marketing fund.
Sanlam has since canned the hunting trip. Stating that it does not "support canned hunting in any way whatsoever. Hunting trips such as these are an extremely infrequent occurrence within the group and they are planned directly between individuals and clients who are specifically interested in this activity. These are, without exception, funded from the fees we generate as a business; no policyholder fees have ever been used for this purpose.
"Sanlam Investments is taking the reaction to this trip extremely seriously. We pride ourselves on being a business that holds the needs of our policyholders and investors at the very centre of all that we do. For this reason, if we establish that any Sanlam activity is concerning to our clients, we treat these concerns with the utmost importance.
"As a consequence, the group will hold internal discussions to formulate a group hunting policy. We have cancelled our current hunting trips while we assess the situation."
There you have it.The anti hunting fraternity strives to win at all costs - by means unfair and more often foul.
Luckily only 170 people "signed" the petition. So lets take our mouses (I am certain that the plural for the mouse of a computer is mouses - but I stand to be corrected) and write comments at the bottom of this article and lets send it to Sanlam and the authors of the petition.
