Research indicating the enormous contribution of the hunting industry to the economy, as well as the impact of hunting on the game population of South Africa and the utilisation of game, is being conducted by the University of North Wests's Institute for Tourism and Leisure(Potchefstroom Campus).
The research commenced in 2005 to determine the economic impact of biltong hunters. Hunting methods, calibres, the utilisation of game and what game is hunted, were documented. The project is of concern to the hunting industry as it:
"¢ Projects the hunting industry as an ecomomic force of note
"¢ Lends negotiation status to the hunting industry regarding arms and game regulation.
It advantages the hunting industry as a whole. The information gathered by the Institute is, therefore, of great importance and the more information provided, the more accurate the research.
Pot-Shot has undertaken to support the Insitute by providing the questionnaire on the Internet. A pdf version will also be made available to those who would rather print it out, compete it and fax it to the Institute.
Dear readers, it is cardinal to the industry and we will keep on nagging you to participate. It is in the interest of every hunter and the future of the industry that the questionnaire should be completed. The questionnaire will be ready by the end of July and will then appear with the newsletter on a weekly basis with a reminder that it should be completed.
