Courses on Agricultural and Soil Potential Assessment

Short courses on agricultural potential assessment and on game farming are being presented by Bushveld Eco Services at the Centre for Wildlife Management, the
University of Pretoria's Experimental Farm

The cost for the three day course on the assessment of agricultural possession to be conducted from 25 to 27 August is R 2 000 per person, which includes lunch, tea and snacks included.

The course includes:
* Factors affecting the agricultural potential of a property
* Collection of natural resource data through desktop and field studies
* Mapping of various production units on a property
* Governmental guidelines for compiling an agricultural potential report.

The course will be presented by Chris Lubbe, Francois Botha and Frits van Oudtshoorn, who collectively have 80 years experience in agricultural potential assessment, land use planning and training.

The two-day course on Soil Potential Assessment will be conducted from 15 to 16 September at the same venue at a cost of R950 per person, including lunch, tea and snacks.

The course includes:
* The soil profile and parent material
* Internal and external properties of soil
* Tools for soil assessment and data collection
* Influence of soil properties on land use potential
* Compiling a soil map.

The course is presented by Francois Botha, a soil scientist, and Chris Lubbe, a qualified land use planner. Both gentlemen have extensive experience in assessing soils for land use planning.
