As it goes in life, there is a time for receiving and time for giving. The judgment delivered by Judge Erasmus on 26 June in favour of the SAHGCA took some convincing and coercing.
It required hours of negotiation and nights of preparation from specialist legal experts. We all know what the cost of specialist help in any area is. Simply look at the cost of medical specialists. They deserve those fees paid to them because it was their choice to follow that profession. It is the individual's choice to consult specialist(s).
It was our choice to tackle this case and every choice carries responsibilities. The responsibility we now have is to reward those men who offered their services.
The reaction to the request to contribute R100 to the SAHGCA's legal costs was overwhelming. Heartfelt thanks for that. Baviaanspoort, one of the three Pretoria branches, which is active in the Moot and the north western areas of Pretoria, decided at its annual general meeting that and amount of R5 000 is to be donated to the Legal Aid Fund. It is merely a drop in the ocean and I am certain that some of the other branches are in a position to also make a contribution.
The Baviaanspoort management committee hereby challenges all the other branches of the SAHGCA to equal or even improve on its contribution.

Chairperson, SAHGCA Baviaanspoort
