Hunting association pays tribute to wildlife stalwart

Former CEO of the Natal Parks Board, Dr George Hughes, acknowledged the role that responsible hunters in South Africa play as stakeholders in the `greatest wildlife industry in the history of the world'. Dr Hughes recently received the Order of the Bataleur from the SA Hunters and Game Conservation Association (SAHGCA) for his significant contribution to biodiversity and wildlife conservation.

Record Poaching in 2014, SANParks Reviewing Rhino Tenders Again

1,155 rhinos were poached in South Africa in 2014. In light of this record figure SANParks are again starting a tender process to sell rhino to private buyers in an attempt find safe havens.

Despite Heavy Toll SANparks Make Progress in Rhino War

2014 has been a long and bloody year in the fight against rhino poaching, with at 1020 rhinos having been killed by poachers since January. In an attempt to stem the carnage, SANparks have implemented the first phase of the Strategic Rhino Translocation Programme from the Kruger National Park, which was successfully completed last month.

72 Suspected Poachers Named

The Democratic Alliance has revealed a list of 72 suspected rhino poachers known to authorities. More than 3,394 rhino have been killed in South Africa since 2008 and Tuesday marked the death of the 736th rhino to have been poached this year, said Democratic Alliance MP Teri Stander.
